Tampines Accident

I guess this is a little late, but this accident has been playing on my mind for quite a while.

On Monday, two boys aged 7 and 13 were killed when they were run over by a cement truck at Tampines. At around 7pm when I got home from school, I received a WhatsApp message from my classmate containing a picture of the accident. I'm not going to put it up because its disrespectful. But when I saw that picture I could literally feel my heart break.

Apparently, the older boy was picking up his brother from school and on the way home, while crossing the road, a cement truck turned the corner and hit them. The boys were said to have stumbled and fallen in the way of the wheels of the truck and it ran over them.

Car accidents. We've all heard of them. But this particular one seemed to pull at the heart strings of almost all Singaporeans. It felt like a blow to the gut. Like, wow.. It actually happened. It made me realize how much I've taken my life for granted.

I guess this is a wake up call for all Singaporeans. We always feel so protected and safe that we don't realize that the greatest danger we have is ourselves.

But the one who moved me the most was the boys' mother. When I saw the picture of her crying for her sons by the road side, I cried as well. Can you imagine that pain? She has had her oldest son for 13 years! And he was just gone. And her youngest son passed away as well. If I were her I would be angry.

Being a Christian, I would be angry with God. I would have been furious, I would have hated Him. I thought she did too.

But then today my mother showed me the testimony of the boys' mother. And I was moved to tears. Not only did she not blame God, but she thanked Him for the years that she had with her sons while they were alive and she praised God for the happy moments that they had together while they were still a family.

How amazing is that? I cannot even put into words what I'm feeling right now.

No disrespect to other religions! I believe that we all have a right to choose what we believe in. And I do not put any other religion down.

Im only saying this because I really respect this woman for her faith. I have been a Christian all my life while she has only been a Christian for a few years and yet the amount of faith she has in God is so great compared to the little amount that I have.

May God continue to keep her family strong.

And to all other Singaporeans, please be safe while driving or using the roads.
